Fennel Quality Parameters Explained

Buyers new to sourcing seed spices from India often see the same handful of terms on a specification sheet. Here's what each one is actually checking for.
Purity
Purity describes how much of a lot is the actual product versus other seeds, husk or plant material. Higher purity generally means less sorting is needed on the buyer's end before use.
Moisture
Moisture content affects both shelf life and weight. Seed spices that are too high in moisture are more prone to spoilage or clumping during storage and transit.
Foreign matter
This refers to anything in the lot that isn't the seed itself — stones, dust, stems or other plant debris. Cleaning reduces foreign matter before packaging and dispatch.
Colour and aroma
Consistent colour and a strong, characteristic aroma are often used as quick visual and sensory indicators of freshness and proper post-harvest handling.
None of these parameters exist in isolation — a good supplier checks them together and communicates clearly about what a given lot can and can't meet, rather than promising a single number without context.
